Nettle Distillation Workshop: April 20, 2019
Nettle is an abundant springtime plant in the Pacific Northwest. Nettle is often consumed as a food or tea, as it contains a wide range of nutrients. In this workshop, we will be filling our 10 gallon alembic copper still with Nettle leaves to create a distilled hydrosol. Nettle is unique to many of the aromatic plants that we distill, as it contains very little essential oil. Despite this, Nettle hydrosol is deeply earthy and packed full of nutrients that can nourish the skin and hair. Nettle hydrosol is also energetically very grounding.
In this workshop, we walk through the entire distilling process by preparing Nettle leaves for the still, packing the still as a group, running an entire distillation session, and collecting the hydrosol to take home. This class is also a celebration of Nettle. You'll learn about the history of use of Nettle, it's role in the ecosystem, the phytochemistry of the plant, the herbal actions, and how to therapeutically use your hydrosol from class. Participants will leave with bottles of hydrosol to take home.
